Spring Roof Maintenance Checklist for GTA Homes

Winter is hard on GTA roofs. A spring check finds the damage that ice, snow, and wind leave behind before summer storms expose it.

Look for winter damage from the ground

After the snow clears, scan the roof from the ground for missing, lifted, or curled shingles, and for any debris left by winter storms. Binoculars help you spot trouble without climbing.

Ice damming over winter can lift shingles and damage flashing at the eaves, so pay close attention to the lower edges of the roof.

Clear gutters and downspouts

Spring runoff and melting snow put your gutters to work. Clear out leaves and debris so water drains away from the roof edge and foundation instead of backing up under the shingles.

Check that downspouts direct water well away from the house. Overflowing gutters are a common source of fascia rot and basement moisture.

Check flashing, vents, and seals

Flashing around chimneys, skylights, and roof-wall intersections is where many leaks start. Look for lifted, rusted, or separated flashing and cracked rubber pipe boots.

Vents and seals can loosen over a freeze-thaw winter, so these details deserve a closer look in spring.

Book repairs before storm season

GTA summers bring heavy rain and wind. Addressing small issues in spring keeps a minor repair from becoming an emergency leak during the first big storm.

If the spring check turns up widespread wear, a roofing assessment will clarify whether repair or replacement is the right plan for the season ahead.
